Every day digital technologies change the world. Virtual reality trains brain surgeons. Mobile apps predict the weather down to the minute. Holograms introduce presidential candidates to millions across India. None of these would exist without the opportunity for innovators and specialists to discuss, debate, collaborate and create.

In good company

Silicon South is home to 300+ digital and creative businesses, employing over 7,900 people and contributing more than £349 million to the local economy. But we’re also a leading location for a number of other sectors including finance, healthcare, engineering, marine and sustainable technologies.

These clusters provide unique opportunities for innovation, collaboration and the reinvigoration of the talent pool. You can explore some of the organisations that also call Silicon South home, below.

Digital Agencies

With hundreds of agencies and countless freelancers basing themselves in Silicon South, we've got one of the highest concentration of digital business outside of London. From boutique offerings to full service agencies serving international clients, the breadth and scale of the agency landscape is impressive. From Emerge Group to Adido, RedWeb and Bright Blue Day all demonstrate that a regional location does not impact growth or ambition.

Visual Effects/Animation

Home to the International VFX Hub, extensive graduate talent and Framestore's only UK regional outpost, the region is fast becoming known as a hub for post-production, visual effects and animation.

The UK is Europe's leading games development market, leading the charge in the creation of mobile, MMO, social and network game creation. Silicon South is home to TIGA, the gaming industry body, as well as Amuzo Games, one of the leading games developers in the world.

Health & Social Care

When digital meets healthcare the scope for opportunity is massive. In Silicon South, a number of entrepreneurs are already taking a collaborative approach, working with local councils and making use of the test bed offered by the region to launch initiatives such as Living Labs.

Marine & Defence

Its maritime naval history and location puts Dorset at the forefront of R&D Defence with world-class companies such as Universal Engineering, Beagle, BAE Systems, Atlas Electronic, QinitiQ, AB Precision, and Lab Impex Systems. At the other end of the sector, Sunseeker International is one of the world’s best known luxury motoryacht manufacturers.

Many global financial brands have chosen Silicon South as a location, including JP Morgan, LV, NY Bank of Mellon, Coutts and Barclays.

Composite Technologies

We’re also home to some of the largest players in the field of composite technologies – used both in marine and renewable energy industries. Norco GRP is a leader in its field - combining composite technology with tidal power generation. Global Marine Systems is the largest independent provider of submarine cable installation, maintenance and related engineering services worldwide

Dorset is home to a thriving and varied advanced engineering sector, including Aerospace and marine technologies. Many of these companies are engaged in R&D, design and/or manufacturing for the world’s most significant official aerospace and defence projects. Companies include global and European leaders such as Cobham, BAE systems, Magellen and GA Telses.
